Cabarete
Known as the adventure capital of the Caribbean, Cabarete is an unforgettable destination if you love water sports. Located 20 minutes from the Puerto Plata airport, Cabarete enjoys the perfect mix of sun, sand, wind and waves. There is literally something for everyone. Cabarete was established a windsport destination back in 1985 and quickly became the windsurf destination of the Caribbean. In 2001 kiteboarding began its rise in popularity. Cabarete is now one of the premiere kiteboarding destinations in the world hosting multiple world championship competitions. Nearby Playa Encuentro has fantastic waves for both beginners and advanced surfers. Last but certainly not least SUP, or stand up paddling has become yet another draw as Cabarete Bay, Kite Beach and other flat water areas host paddlers from around the world.
Cabarete offers a wonderful mix of daytime activities and nightlife flare. Due to the small size of our cozy beach town you can walk just about everywhere, take a short taxi ride or if you are brave, jump on a motorcycle taxi to get to your destination within minutes. The main area of the bay provides a sandy strip of restaurants, bars and beach chairs where you can enjoy your vacation days. The inner area of the bay is also sheltered from the wind for those who want to chill out and catch some vitamin D. That same area boasts an exciting nightlife, and if you are up for it, there is dancing into the wee hours of the morning.
In addition to our ocean activities Cabarete offers a multiple number of yoga classes, spinning classes, dance classes, scuba diving, mountain biking, canyoning and waterfall cascading.
The Dominican and Expat melting pot that is Cabarete is unique to the island. You will hear English, French, German, Italian, and Dutch as often as you may hear Spanish being spoken. Dominicans by nature are wonderful, open and friendly so don’t be surprised if you already feel at home not long after you’ve arrived!
Getting Here
There are three airport options for getting to Cabarete. The closest international airport is Puerto Plata (POP), which is a 20 minute taxi ride from Millennium Hotel & Andari Spa. Santiago (STI) Airport is an hour taxi ride, and Santo Domingo (SDQ), the island’s capital, is a four hour taxi journey to Cabarete. Once you’ve arrived, you’ll find Millennium Hotel & Andari Spa beachfront in the center of Cabarete beach.
